How Social Welfare is Transforming Lives at Brothers In Arms

Behind every child is a story, a family, and a community that shapes who they are. At Brothers In Arms, our Social Welfare Department is committed to understanding those stories so that every child receives the care and support they truly need.

Throughout July, the department carried out 18 home assessments, visiting the homes of children to better understand their living conditions, family backgrounds, and the challenges they face.

These assessments are much more than routine visits. They help identify the risk factors that may influence a child's behaviour and wellbeing while providing valuable insight into the family's circumstances. This information enables Brothers In Arms to offer support that is informed, compassionate, and tailored to each child's unique situation.

One encouraging observation from this month's assessments is that some families are showing signs of improvement both financially and socially. While many challenges remain, these positive changes are a reminder that transformation is possible when families receive consistent support and encouragement.

Beyond home visits, the Social Welfare Department has continued to provide psychosocial support and counselling through both individual and group sessions. These conversations create safe spaces where children can express themselves, process difficult experiences, and receive guidance as they continue their journey of healing.

The department also plays a vital role in fostering peace and healthy relationships within the centre, promoting harmony between staff and children, as well as among the children themselves. A nurturing environment is essential for every young person to feel safe, valued, and able to thrive.

Social welfare at Brothers In Arms is about more than responding to challenges—it is about restoring hope, strengthening families, and creating an environment where every child has the opportunity to grow into a confident and responsible adult.

As we reflect on July, we are grateful for the dedication of our Social Welfare team, whose quiet but impactful work continues to transform lives one child, one family, and one home at a time.
