While many families have the privilege of celebrating Christmas together, street connected youth often don’t have anyone to celebrate with. On December 17 Brother’s Keeper Initiative held its third annual Christmas celebration. Steve Wazisomo Muliya, a former street connected youth who now works with times TV preformed for the youth and shared his inspiring life story of transformation and hope. Mr. Muliya kept the atmosphere exciting, full of dancing, singing and interaction with those in attendance. At one point he had the crowd chanting “Nanenso ndidzaiphula” (I shall also make it big). Hope filled the atmosphere as everyone for a moment left behind their struggles.
The event began with a warm meal and ended with gifts of rice, ufa, soya pieces and soap. It is our hope that these youth would know that they are not forgotten, there is hope, and that they too can one day make it big.
We look forward to all the good things 2021 has in store for Brother's Keeper and the street connected youth of Blantyre.
